Returning to the island after a period away, Stef Houben has reported three Garganey at the quarry pond, Frégate on 17 January. Meanwhile, a male Amur Falcon was also present on the island, which might be the same individual first seen on 19 of December or possibly a new visitor. Amur Falcons are annual visitors to Seychelles south as far as Alphonse, but the vast majority of sightings are female or immature birds.

IDC Island Manager Alain Comettant has reported to Island Conservation Society staff at Desroches the sighting of a Jacobin Cuckoo Oxylophus jacobinus. The bird was identified by ICS staff member Chris Jones. SBRC has accepted 13 previous records of this species including one from Desroches on 2 December 2016.
The first vagrants to Seychelles to be reported in 2017 come from Pep Nogués & Ari Fernandez at Alphonse. These are a Eurasian Hobby Falco subbuteo on New Year's Day and a Northern Wheatear Oenanthe oenanthe on 4th January,
SBRC has accepted 29 previous records of Eurasian Hobby and 74 records of Northern Wheatear. |
